A note from Proofed & Proven’s CEO, Nicole Halper
This business started long before it had a name.
I began my career as a physics teacher, but ending up here was inevitable.
I grew up running farm stands, then put myself through college selling Cutco knives. At Colgate, where I studied physics, environmental science, and Hebrew, I learned from venture capitalists and serial founders. If nothing else, I’ve always been a problem-solver.
I’ve also always been a writer—poetry, essays, plays, travelogues. I’ve edited literary journals, student newspapers, résumés, friends’ novels—anything with words. I’ve spent years traversing continents, collecting stories and making my own.
Growing up in Central Jersey, my schools were culturally diverse, but it wasn’t until a college environmental justice class that I understood systemic racism wasn’t just history—it was alive and well. My family learned this firsthand when our farm was seized via eminent domain, adding another chapter to a lineage of displacement: pogroms, Holocaust survival, legalized theft. No wonder themes of trauma, politics, and justice show up in my work.
What is our work?
By year four of teaching, the pandemic made me rethink everything. Bureaucratic failures had me questioning whether I could teach social justice in science. During lockdown, I returned to my writing roots and started healing people with stories.
Since then, our clients have included:
